The difference between normalizing and tempering:
1: (quenching + high-temperature tempering) = quenching and tempering: a heat treatment process used to improve the comprehensive mechanical properties of steel materials. Quenched and tempered parts mostly work under relatively large dynamic loads. They bear the effects of stretching, compression, bending, torsion or shearing. Some surfaces also have friction, requiring certain wear resistance and so on. Especially for large parts in heavy machinery manufacturing, quenching and tempering treatment is used more, and quenching and tempering treatment occupies a very important position in heat treatment.
Quenching and tempering is generally used on medium carbon steel, such as No. 45 steel.
2: Normalizing (obtaining sorbite structure, substantial pearlite): a heat treatment to improve the toughness of steel.
Normalizing is generally used on low carbon induction steel, such as No. 10 steel
3: Annealing: Slowly heat the metal to a certain temperature, keep it for a sufficient time, and then cool it at an appropriate speed. The purpose is to reduce hardness and improve machinability.
Commonly used quenched and tempered steels can be divided into four categories according to hardenability and strength:
1: Quenched and tempered steel with low hardenability
2: Quenched and tempered steel with medium hardenability
3: Quenched and tempered steel with high hardenability
4: Quenched and tempered steel with high hardenability
